Your Guide to CPM Pads
Continuous passive motion machines, often referred to as CPM machines, are commonly used in the initial phase of rehabilitation after knee surgery. CPM machines have been shown to control pain following surgery, reduce inflammation, and facilitate a quicker healing and repair process. The machine works by providing passive motion in a specific plane of movement, constantly moving the joint through a controlled range of motion to flex and extend it. CPM machines are especially common following different types of reconstructive joint surgery, including knee replacement surgery and ACL replacement surgery.
At Select Medical Products, Inc., we offer a wide range of CPM pads. CPM pads work to make CPM machines much more comfortable for patients. There are several things that you will want to consider when purchasing CPM pads:
- Comfort: CPM pads are designed to improve the comfort of the patient while he or she is using a CPM machine. Therefore, pads should be made of a material that is durable yet very comfortable. Quilted pads can be a great way to maximize patient comfort.
- Hygiene: Typically, CPM machines serve more than one patient. Therefore, pads can be an excellent way to improve hygiene. Depending on the needs of your organization, pads can be reusable, which means they can be washed after each use. There are also a variety of disposable CPM pads out on the market.
- Ease of use: Ideally, CPM pads should be easy to use. That means they should be easy to attach to the machine with easy-to-use hook-and-loop fasteners.
